The benefits of bite sized learning
A key benefit of bite sized training is that it’s agile, enabling learning and development teams to respond to new learning priorities and changes in the workplace.
What is ‘bite sized learning’?
Bite sized learning certainly means different things to different people: for other training providers, it might mean something as flimsy as a PDF download or 3-minute video!
But here at BiteSize Learning, it’s what we call our signature two-hour training courses: carefully targeted, expert-delivered, and live and interactive, whether delivered in-person or online. It’s a training model we’ve carefully honed over the past 17 years, during which time we’ve helped over 45,000 people develop their workplace skills in subject areas from leadership, personal effectiveness and wellbeing.
Why use a ‘bite sized learning’ approach?
Training employees in short, focused bursts offers organisations a number of advantages in terms of flexibility, specificity and impact. Here’s why keeping things bite-sized is the way to go.
Bite sized training is easier to deploy
At just two hours long, our bitesize training courses are easier to fit into the working day, improving attendance and reducing stress. And because attendees know they’ll still have plenty of working time that day to address urgent work, they can devote their full focus to the training experience.
Bite sized training is laser-focused on a real problem
Each of our training courses addresses a very specific workplace for challenge, from communicating inclusively to negotiating with others. That makes it easier for L&D teams to match the training to their organisation’s precise learning needs, and solve real problems.
Bite sized training values attendees’ time
With just 120 minutes to play with, we don’t have time for fluffy, ‘filler’ content, or anything less than engaging, actionable and immediately valuable. That means each of our sessions provides a tightly edited selection of the most powerful models attendees can use right away.
Bite sized training is easier to digest
The human brain can only sustain attention for so long, and remember so much. Sleep researcher Nathaniel Kleitman discovered that, throughout the day and night, humans cycle through 90-120-minute phases characterised by distinct levels of alertness. The bitesize course format works with our natural energy levels helping participants to maintain engagement.
Meanwhile, breaking big topics like ‘line management’ down into smaller pieces, and delivering them over time, gives attendees more time to reflect on each concept and experiment with behaviour change, before they move onto the next element. Overall, it’s a more effective way to drive long-term impact than packing tons of learning into a two-day bootcamp.
Bite sized training gives learning & development teams flexibility
Our modular approach empowers learning & development teams to co-create a unique training programme perfectly suited to their organisation. Rather than adopting an inflexible ‘new manager’ programme wholesale, L&D customers can mix and match from a mix of over 70 bite size sessions to design a tailored learning experience. Similarly, each course can be customised using the company’s language, specific examples, scenarios or video to enhance the content.
